Smart City mission underway in Vizag

The GVMC has begun with 24X7 water supply network ground-level service reservoir (GLSR) at Asilmetta high-level water works area.

Visakhapatnam: As part of the Smart City Mission, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has commenced one of the proposed area-based development works.

Recently, state HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao had directed the GVMC commissioner to commence the works post Dasara festival.

The Chief Minister laid the foundation for these works in August along with other Smart City projects. However, they were not commenced due to some technical delays. An estimated budget of Rs 140 crore has been earmarked for the overall works in ABD region. The works include street beautification, sewerage and road development works.

The GVMC has begun with 24X7 water supply network ground-level service reservoir (GLSR) at Asilmetta high-level water works area. The quality monitoring of 2,600-kilo litre GLSR will be helpful in providing safe drinking water to the people.

The existing equipment will be replaced with Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) technology.

Visakhapatnam East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu and GVMC commissioner M. Harinarayanan formally launched the project on Wednesday. “The estimated cost of the project is '86.4 crore and will be completed in two years. This will supply water to 8,410 connections to a total network of 45.39 km,” Mr Harinarayanana said.
