Bengaluru: Like the names of the housing blocks at National Games Village (NGV) - Ganga, Kaveri, Nethravi, Bhadra etc, the roads in the complex resembled rivulets and the whole area, which has nearly 3,000 flats, got inundated following evening showers on Wednesday
The rains also wreaked havoc in different parts of the city. Areas surrounding Shanti Nagar bus depot, which is prone to flooding, got submerged in no time.
This forced the motorists to take Siddaiah Road, leding to traffic gridlock for hours.
Those who had to catch outstation buses were forced to get down from their local buses due to traffic jam and rain havoc and walk all the way to Shantinagar bus station, to be in time.
Roads in Chickpet, Avenue Road, S.P. Road and K.R. Market, which was filled with festival shoppers, got flooded causing inconvenience to them.
Neelesh, a cabbie, lamented that most roads in the city get easily flooded during rains.
Ambulances stuck
As traffic was thrown out of gear vehicles were jammed in almost all roads in the city and many ambulance too got stuck with patients on board at Lal Bagh Road, J.C. Road, Wilson Garden and Siddaiah Road.
Only 2 plaints of water logging!
While major part of Shantinagar bus depot road, Ejipura, NGV, Chickpet, Gandhinagar and other low lying areas were flooded on Wednesday, men at BBMP control room claimed they recorded only two complaints - one at Shantinagar and other at Gandhinagar.
Two trees uprooted
Two trees, one tree at Siddappa Layout in Konanakunte Cross and the other at Palace Guttahalli, fell due to the rains. The control room officials claimed that no casualties were reported and the fallen trees were cleared.
Wet spell till Oct 19
Weathermen at private weather forecast Skymet have forecast that rains will continue till October 19. "A cyclonic circulation is seen over interior Tamil Nadu and Kerala and Bengaluru are set to witness moderate to heavy showers. Bengaluru stands a chance to get rains for another three days that is till October 19."
