AP launches new crowd sourcing APP

Currently, the app is available only on Android-based mobile phones.

Vijayawada: Making the best use of technology induced governance, the government of Andhra Pradesh has launched People First – ‘Crowd Sourcing’ app to hasten the relief measures for the people affected by Cyclone Titli, through Real Time Governance Society (RTGS).

People First – ‘Crowd Sourcing’ is a feature specially designed for identification of Cyclone Titli affected regions for damage estimation and redressal. Here, people themselves can take a photo of their asset or location that has been affected by Cyclone Titli and geo-tag the photo on the application.

For geo-tagging, Global Positioning System (GPS) must be active. Once a user uploads the photo of a person, his crop or asset on ‘Crowd Sourcing’ application, through GPS and internet connectivity, the photo will get geo-tagged automatically, tracing itself to the real cyclone affected location.

“Photos of fallen houses, dead cattle or damaged crop or damage of any other sort can directly be sent to the government sources through this application. The classification of damage/loss is clearly given in the app. These crowd sourced photos will be organised and indexed on Cloud software. The visuals and geo-tagging will help understand the gravity of the damage more accurately. The mobile-based application is expected to facilitate access to interior locations of cyclone affected regions and help government sources initiate immediate action measures,” a senior RTGS official said.

The State Government has urged people in cyclone affected regions to make good use of the application and directly reach the officials concerned and help restore a region to normalcy swiftly. Currently, the app is available only on Android-based mobile phones.
