Advocates set to rally behind Congress
Karimnagar: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) is finding it difficult to retain the support of advocates who supported the party in the last elections and during the Telangana agitation.
Advocates had played a key role during the agitation for separate Telangana.
Voices in political circles say that a number of advocate leaders are likely to either join or extend support to the Congress party during Rahul Gandhi’s meeting in Karimnagar on October 27.
Nearly, 500 advocates practicing at the 12 courts in Old Karimnagar district are likely to take a rally in support of the Congress in Karimnagar on the day of Mr Gandhi’s meeting. It is learnt that 1,200 advocates enrolled with various courts including Karimnagar, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Husnabad, Korutla, Huzurabad, Manthani, Metpalli, Sircilla, Vemulawada, Godavarikhani in Old Karimnagar district will be mobilised for the rally.
Recently, Boodida Mallesh, Telangana Advocates Welfare Trust advisory committee member, resigned from his post. Mr Mellesh also resigned from the primary membership of TRS. It is said that Mr Mallesh is likely to join the Congress along with his supporters.
The TRS has enjoyed strong support and base among advocates in Karimnagar. During the Telangana agitation, some advocates had even locked the Karimnagar court gates. Speaking to this newspaper, Boodida Mallesh, Karimnagar district Bar Association secretary, said, “We are planning to take a rally of advocates in our professional dress code in support of the Congress in Karimnagar city”. He further added that the TRS has done nothing for the welfare of the Advocates.
Mr Mallesh ridiculed TRS’s claim that they had established a advocates welfare trust.
