Top AP, Telangana officials to discuss assets sharing
Hyderabad: Top officials from Telangana and AP states will meet on Tuesday to discuss the sharing of assets of the institutions listed in the 10th Schedule of AP Reorganization Act. TS Chief Secretary Rajeev Sharma has sent the communication to the AP government informing of the meeting on Tuesday.
Mr Sharma, who will lead the TS delegation, will be accompanied by advocate-general K. Ramakrishna Reddy, while AP will be represented by C. Kutumba Rao, deputy chairman of the Planning Board, and retired IAS officer S. Balasubrahmanyam.
The Supreme Court has directed the Central committee to look into sharing of assets of the institutions listed in the 10th Schedule between the two states. The Supreme Court also advised both the governments to reach a settlement on the issue through discussions.
In the meeting chaired by the joint secretary, Union home ministry, the TS government had said that it will fix the date for discussions with AP. Accordingly, Tuesday was decided upon.
According to rough estimates arrived at by the AP government, the combined assets of the institutions listed in the 10th schedule in both AP and TS state are worth Rs 39,242.49 crore. AP is demanding about Rs 24,000 crore as its share, the calculation based on the population. According to sources, AP is inclined to negotiate on its share, provided TS gives an indication of what it is willing to part with.
