New Secretariat to cost Telangana Rs 1,200 crore

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will lay the foundation stone for the new Secretariat in November.

Hyderabad: A road map has been devised for shifting the Telangana state Secretariat so that the existing four blocks (A, B, C and D) can be demolished and construction of a new Vastu-compliant Secretariat completed within a year. The exercise is estimated to cost TS nearly Rs 1,200 crore.

Chief secretary Rajiv Sharma and senior officials from the General Administration Depart-ment and R&B met at the Secretariat on Monday to draw the road map. The departments will be shifted to BRK Bhavan and other government buildings in the city beginning December.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will lay the foundation stone for the new Secretariat in November. Mr Rao is believed to have rejected the U-shaped design (similar to that of North Block-South Block in New Delhi with the Chief Minister’s Office in the middle) submitted by noted architect Hafeez Contractor as it would require of the AP government to hand over its Secretariat blocks and involve higher project cost of over Rs 350 crore.
