In 5 months, zip to KIA on alternative roads: Siddaramaiah
Bengaluru: Driving to the Kempegowda International Airport could soon get easier with the government promising to provide access to it through two alternative roads in the next five months.
While it has already spent Rs 300 crore on these roads, the bottlenecks will have to be cleared by construction of flyovers and underpasses at a cost of another Rs 48 crore, according to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Inspecting the alternative routes to the airport via Hennur, Bagalur and Mylanahalli on Monday, he said the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board was acquiring the land required to widen the existing roads on these routes. Around 15.32 acres was being acquired in Begur, Chikkanahalli, Bettakote, Mylanahalli and Bandikodigenahalli, he revealed.
One the two roads inspected runs from Thanisandra to Mylanahalli via Bagalur and the other from Hennur to Mylanahalli via Bagalur. The first is 20.63 kms long , shorter than the 22 kms long Hebbal-KIA road by 1.57 kms. The second running from Hennur flyover to Myalanahalli via Bagalur is 21.48 kms long and is expected to cut short the distance to the airport by 4.8 kms for those heading to it from eastern and central parts of the city.
Seeing the flyover still incomplete here, Mr Siddaramaiah assured that as the problem over land acquisition for it had been resolved , it would be soon completed .
“Around Rs 17 crore has been sanctioned to develop the Thanisandra-Bagalur-Mylanahalli road in addition to the Rs 31 crore sanctioned for construction of a grade separator at Thanisandra Circle, which is a major bottleneck in this corridor,” he explained.
Going by the Chief Minister with the KIA building a second runway and terminal on its southern side , a new entry point is being made to it from the Mylanahalli village side for the people's convenience.
