Degree colleges end stir, Telangana vows to pay up

The minister is learnt to have told them that it would be difficult for government to release the entire amount at one go.

HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari told degree college managements on Monday that the state government would release Rs 600 crore of the fee reimbursement dues. The government owes a total of Rs 2,168 to these colleges.

Following the assurance, degree college managements decided to end their stir. This removes hurdles to conduct supplementary exams in state universities.
A delegation of the colleges association comprising Mr G. Ramana Reddy, Mr Vijayabhaskar Reddy and Mr Gouri Satish were invited for discussions by the minister on Monday evening.

The minister sought their co-operation to conduct the exams so that students are not affected. After hearing the college managements, he assured that the government would take steps to clear all the dues in the coming months.

The minister is learnt to have told them that it would be difficult for government to release the entire amount at one go. Speaking to the media later, association members said the government had agreed to release Rs 300 crore in two days and another Rs 300 crore by the end of the month.
