Hyderabad: Those pumping or draining water on to main roads, causing water stagnation, will be fined. GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said on Monday that repeat offenders would be issued notices and in the case of commercial establishments, trade licences would be cancelled.
The commissioner undertook a surprise inspection to check the quality of road work being undertaken by contractors early on Monday morning. He found that along the Metro Rail viaducts, especially at the proposed stations, there were no proper outlets for rainwater and the accumulated water was damaging the roads.
He instructed assistant engineers to ensure that the resultant potholes were filled. He directed Metro Rail officials to ensure that there were proper outlets through pipes so that rainwater was channeled into the abutting stormwater drains.
Hyderabad mayor Bonthu Rammohan and Dr Janardhan Reddy along with GHMC quality control cell officials carried out the inspections between 3.30 am and 7.30 am.
“Commercial or residential establishments found pumping or draining water on roads causing water stagnation will be fined. No water should be pumped on the main roads as most stretches are being damaged due to water stagnation. Those found doing so will be fined or notices will be issued to the concerned management. In case of a repeat offence, the trade licence issued by GHMC would be cancelled,” he said. He asked the GHMC engineering wing to take the help of the Hyderabad police command and control room and the traffic police to book offenders.
