Aradhana case hits roadblock

Hyderabad: Investigations into the Aradhana case has hit a roadblock with police officials left with very little evidence to prove the charges against the victim’s parents, who are accused of culpable homicide.

The cops could not question them a second time as they are ‘technically absconding’. The parents and local Jain leaders have informed police that they will not be available as they have gone on a pilgrimage. Meanwhile, pressure from Jain organisations is mounting on the police to drop the case. “The case may not move forward. There are no witnesses and no technical evidence. The police has only a doctor’s report which said the girl died of cardiac arrest. There was no autopsy and now there is no scope for one as the body was cremated,” said an official.

The officials also do not know when the parents of Aradhana will come back to the city. Meanwhile, the Jain community has started a campaign to glorify Aradhana by naming her a saint. Hundreds of organisations have been sending letters to the government explaining the importance of fasting. They have also asked the city police to drop the case against the parents.
