Kochi: More arrests in Palarivattom case likely

Vigilance investigation suggests involvement of more people in scam.

Kochi: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) team probing the Palarivattom flyover case is likely to make a couple of arrests in the coming days. Sources said persons including engineers and others holding top positions will be interrogated again after a few days and would be arrested if necessary.

“The investigation till now suggested the involvement of more people in the case,” a senior officer said. “We cannot reveal the details as we are not done with the investigation. More statements will be collected and more persons will be interrogated as part of the investigation. Arrests will only be made after this. All the accused involved in the case will be brought before law.”

The VACB had earlier arrested four persons including former PWD secretary T.O. Sooraj in connection with the case and were remanded by the court. The others are Sumit Goyal, MD of RDS Projects; M.T Thankachan, former additional general manager, Kerala Roads and Bridges Development Corporation (RBDCK) and Benny Paul-joint general manager KITCO. They were slapped with charges corruption, conspiracy and misuse of funds. The agency had also quizzed the four in custody.

Meanwhile, the High Court on Tuesday postponed considering the bail petition of the four accused including T O Sooraj, to Wednesday. Earlier, the Muvattupuzha vigilance court had dismissed the bail petition he had moved.
