Kerala co offers home sewage plant
Kochi: For the first time in the state, a company has come out with a sewage treatment plant (STP) for individual houses.
The promoters of the firm say water after nine stages of filtration in the STP can be used for landscape watering, car washing, flushing and other purposes. After advanced RO, UF and UV treatment, the water becomes potable as well.
The domestic sewage treatment plant developed by Changanassery-based H2O Care needs little maintenance and is environment-friendly. It does not consume much power also while limited space is required to set up the plant.
“The normal water usage of a common house varies from 1,000 to 2,000 litres and the cost of our plant including network and installation charges comes between Rs 1.50 and Rs 2 lakh, according to the capacity,” said George Scaria, managing director of H2O Care.
The company has estimated that the total sewage generated in a household is 80 per cent of the total water consumption.
“The main sources of sewage generation in houses are from the kitchen, washbasin, bathroom, washing machine and septic tank overflow. These five sources are connected to the domestic sewage treatment plant,” he said.
“At present, sewage treatments are only available in flats and large corporations. We are taking it to the next level and are confident that it will come as a big relief for people in urban landscapes like Kochi who have problems for water. H2O Care, which was approved by the State Pollution Control Board in 2007, has implemented sewage treatment plants in and out of the state for apartments, villas, hotels, hospitals and educational institutions.”
