Tamil Nadu tops in organ donation for 4th time

The Cethar Hospital Tiruchy and a local trust jointly organised a body organ donation camp at Pudukkottai on Saturday.

PUDUKKOTTAI: Tamil Nadu stood first among other states in the country fourth time in succession and received the Union Government's award for organ donation. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself appreciated this achievement of Tamil Nadu, said State Health Minister Dr C. Vijayabaskar.

Inaugurating a marathon to create awareness on organ donation here on Saturday, he also pointed out that more than 12,000 persons participated in the marathon and secured a place in the Asian Book of Records. The state has so far received 7,573 organs from 1,298 donors, he said. Pudukkottai collector Ms. B Umamaheswari and other officials participated.

Among others, Pudukkottai Rotract Association president, M. Mohammed Ibrahim, Road Safety Awareness Association president Maruti K. Mohanraj and others participated and explained that organ donation was a noble cause and need of the hour.
