KHAMMAM: Scores of patients who visited hospitals over the last few days have been suffering from fever, diarrhoea and other ailments.
It has been noticed that seasonal diseases have been increasingly spreading and people were approaching doctors nearer to them.
This is not only the case in the district headquarters in Khammam but also at the Primary Health Centres and Community Health Centres.
Some of the patients have been showin symptoms of Dengue, typhoid and malaria and doctors have conducted the required tests. Around 90 per cent of the patients have been complaining of severe headache, body pain and high fever.
The number of patients coming to various hospitals is between 5,000 to 9,000 every day for the last four days. On August 12, around 2,100 persons approached doctors in the Primary Health Centres in Khammam and Bhadradri-Kothagudem district.
The figure is around 2,000 on the same day, in the district headquarter hospitals in Khammam and Kothagudem. The patients who have been coming to private hospitals and registered medical practitioners in both the districts is around 4,000.
On August 13, the number touched 8,000, including 1,883 patients who visited Khammam district headquarter hospital. Around 25 to 30 patients have been coming to the Primary Health Centres located in the rural areas.
On August 14, around 1,970 persons came to Khammam district headquarters hospital and 890 to the Kothagudem district headquarters hospital as out-patients, apart from the 5,000 people who came to the PHCs and other private hospitals.
The situation on Independence Day was also the same. But, the number of patients who visited the Government Hospital was less on Thursday when compared to the private hospitals.
One estimates, around 2,000 people came to the private hospitals in Khammam on Thursday alone.
After assessing the situation, sufficient medicines were placed in all the Primary Health Centres. Medical shops in Khammam witnessed heavy rush for buying medicines.
K. Syamprasad, a pharmacist, said that the counter sales have increased suddenly in the last four days and that patients from various hospitals were coming and buying medicines, particularly for fever.
Shockingly, more number of patients have been complaining of snake bites. Around 20 to 25 persons came in from various hospitals in both the districts with snake bite complains. Seven persons died due to snake bites since August 1.
Anti-venom vaccines have been kept ready in all PHCs. N. Suresh, resident of Ellapuram village, coming under Yellandu mandal, was bitten by a snake and he died while being shifted to the hospital on Thursday.
