GVMC demolishes TD ex-MLA’s building

There are allegations that the construction was begun without valid permissions.

VISAKHAPATNAM: As part of demolishing illegal constructions in the city, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation’s (GVMC) Planning Department officials demolished the five-storeyed building of former MLA of Anakapalle P. Govinda Satyanarayana, located in Dwarakanagar, in the city on Saturday. However, the former MLA defended that he got a stay order from the court, but the GVMC officials have not been taking the court orders and demolished the building.

With police security, the GVMC officials began demolishing the building after pasting a notice on one of the pillars of the building on Friday. The men started the work manually as the construction is located at one of the busiest junctions in the city.

Around two years ago, the former MLA began construction on an extent of 250 sq.ft. Though there are strong allegations that the construction was begun without valid permissions from the GVMC, there has been no action from the GVMC. The former MLA applied under the Building Penalisation Scheme to regularise the construction. However, according to the guidelines, ground floor and additionally two floors only would be allowed at the extent. Even after repeated warnings, the workers have not been stopping the construction.

Finally, the GVMC officials rushed to the spot and started demolishing the construction with stiff police security.
