Bengaluru on high alert: Police chief meets top cops

Alert B expects the police to be prepared to tackle any situation and keep an eye on people coming into the city.

In view of the high alert sounded in the city, city Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao chaired a meeting of the senior police officials here on Saturday. Additional, joint and deputy commissioners of police from all divisions attended the meeting. Mr Rao got updates from them on area-wise security measures and police patrolling and gave directions.

“This is a very sensitive situation. All of us need to be extremely vigilant and not give room to any law and order situation,” he told the top officers. He told them to ensure that all sensitive areas in the city and public places, including malls, are safe. Accordingly, the DCPs of all divisions issued an internal memo to their respective staff to keep a strict vigil in every part of the city.

A, B and C alerts
Mr Rao told the officers that the central intelligence agencies have three types of alert — A, B and C. As per A alert, the police should swiftly act towards forming a security cover and ensuring that no untoward incident takes place anywhere in their jurisdiction. On finding a suspicious individual, they should be compulsorily frisked.

B alert expects the police to be prepared to tackle any situation and keep an eye on people coming into the city. The C alert is a regular alarm to keep a vigil on sensitive areas in the city and to act even if there is suspicion. The third type of alert is for the police to ensure sufficient security on a regular basis, irrespective of any alert or any law and order situation, the commissioner told the officers.

Later, additional commissioners of police held a meeting with the DCPs of different divisions.
