MANGALURU: Three people are reported missing even as about 180 villagers moved to temporary shelters in Sampaje and Araontodu in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district in the wake of a massive landslide at Jodupala, a village abutting Kodagu district, on Friday night. Housing minister U.T. Khader rushed to Jodupala with sources indicating that one body was found out of the three missing at Jodupala.
Meanwhile, two persons, Diwakar, 32, and Chandrahas Shetty, 53, were feared drowned in Mangaluru and Ashok D’Souza, 26, was electrocuted on Friday. People encountered frequent landslides in neighbouring areas. With debris yet to be cleared in view of incessant rain, two major Ghat sections- Shiradi and Sampaje remained closed on Friday. Traffic in Charmadi Ghat, too, came to a halt for some time a multi axle container truck was stuck at a curve in the evening. About 18 houses were reportedly damaged on August 17. About 200 people were shifted to temporary shelters in Kallapur, Parapu, Panemangaluru, Kasaba and Kulkunda. Several acres of crops were flooded in Puttur, Kadaba, Belthangady and Sullia Taluks.
Mr Khader also visited flood affected areas in Bantwal, Puttur, Kadaba and Sullia taluks along with deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Friday. He visited flood affected areas of Aladka in Bantwal Taluk. He also visited Kulkunda near Kukke where about 15 houses were flooded. He held discussions with people shifted to temporary shelter at Kulkunda Government School and directed the officials concerned to provide all necessary facilities. He also inspected the landslide at Shiradi Ghat.
