Bengaluru: water makes garment factory workers sick
Bengaluru: Several workers fell sick after drinking contaminated water at a garment factory in Mylasandra near Mysuru Road earlier this week. Over 1,500 workers, most of them women, are employed at Wonder Blues Garment Factory. Most of the workers were admitted to government and private hospitals nearby. They had severe vomiting and loose motion at the workplace after 11.30 am on Tuesday.
On Friday, two workers were shifted from Shreya Hospital to Rajajeshwari Hospital and were treated in the ICU, while others are out of danger. Dr Venkatswamy from Shreya Hospital said, “The workers from the garment factory were admitted on Tuesday and Wednesday after they experienced vomiting and loose motion. We conducted tests and diagnosed that they had an infection in their stomach.”
Officials from the Department of Health and Family Welfare said that they have collected the water samples from the factory which will be sent to a lab for testing. The factory will remain shut till they get the reports, they said.
