Jayalalithaa death probe: MK Stalin demands Edappadi K Palaniswami resignation

Palaniswami repeatedly said that the matter was pending with the Madras HC whenever the demand was raised in the Assembly and outside, he added.

Chennai: Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Thursday said a real enquiry into former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s death could be conducted only after the resignation of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and other ministers.
Stalin said the enquiry commission was aimed at deceiving the people and it was a fraudulent scheme to end the ‘dharma yuddham’ and begin another ‘corrupt chapter without dispute’. If Palaniswami is really interested in investigating Jayalalithaa’s death, he should order a CBI probe.

Describing the announcement as ‘eye-wash to merge the corrupt factions of the AIADMK’, he recalled that the DMK had been demanding CBI enquiry into the death for several months. Palaniswami and former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam did not take any action and were waiting for all the evidences for the ‘mysterious death’ including video clippings to be destroyed, Stalin said, in a statement here.

Besides, Panneerselvam and Palaniswami, all the ministers concealed the secrets and mystery in Jayalalithaa's treatment from the day of Jayalalithaa’s admission to her death. Stalin pointed out that Panneerselvam was discharging the functions of Chief Minister from 11 October, 2016 and he was silent as long as he was the Chief Minister. He suddenly went to Jayalalithaa’s burial place and demanded an enquiry commission into her death after meditating at her samadhi for 40 minutes. Palaniswami too did not order a probe for the last six months, he said.

Palaniswami repeatedly said that the matter was pending with the Madras High Court whenever the demand was raised in the Assembly and outside, he added.
PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss recalled that his party had demanded a CBI enquiry and said no truth would come out from a judicial probe. Palaniswami did not wish to bring out the truth behind Jayalalithaa’s death, but he had taken the action only to satisfy a the forces that control him. A judicial enquiry by a retired judge would be just a ceremony and a CBI probe should be ordered, he said.
