Bengaluru: Leaning tower' to be brought down

Building being demolished manually, as machines cannot be used.

BENGALURU: The work to bring down the five-storied ‘leaning tower’ of Ejipura is on and it will take nearly a week to demolish it completely.

As the building was built in a very congested space, it is impossible to bring in any heavy machinery for demolition.

Hence it is being done manually. Building contractor H.N. Krishna Murthy has been entrusted the task to bring down the building by its owner. Over 20 workers have been deployed and have been provided safety gears such as helmets, gloves, glasses and belts.

As the building is tilted, only five workers are being allowed to carry out the work at a time. Workers said that they can bring down only one storey per day.

For those residing near the ‘leaning tower’ life has become miserable. Shahira Begum, who stays in the next building, said "Fearing life we have to remove whatever things possible and come out. But where should be go? For no fault of ours we are made to go through this hardship."

She lamented that no arrangements have been made by officials for their stay till the tilted structure is brought down.
