BBMP plunges to action: 24 strays caught, sent to centres

The second and third being lack of availability of food and general aggressiveness during breeding seasons: Dr Anand

BENGALURU: A day after the video of street dogs attacking women at M.S. Ramaiah Road went viral, BBMP has plunged into action. In its early morning operation on Thursday, over 24 street dogs were caught.

Dr G. Anand, Joint Commissioner of Animal Husbandry, told Deccan Chronicle, "We have caught 24 dogs which will be sent to the Animal Birth Control (ABC) centres. All the dogs will be undergo sterilization and will be left in the same place from where they were caught, as per the SC order."

Explaining the reasons why dogs become virulent and aggressive all of a sudden, Dr Anand said, "Animals generally become aggressive due to three reasons. The first is that when they are provoked they become aggressive. The second and third being lack of availability of food and general aggressiveness during breeding seasons."

Once operated for ABC, aggressiveness will reduce. It brings upon a change in their hormonal levels which made them to behave aggressively and attack people. Animals operated for ABC will be kept in observation and we shall take the necessary action if the same aggressiveness continues, he added.
