Hyderabad: Laxmi Devi, 22, gave birth to a baby boy weighing 5.5 kg. The baby was born at the Siddipet government hospital.
Doctors said that the average weight of a new born baby is 2.8 kg and in case of overweight babies which is very rare it is 3.5 kg. A baby weighing 5.5 kg is very unusual.
Dr Geeta Naidu, a senior gynaecologist explained, “The weight gain of the child is usually takes place in the last trimester. The reasons for a heavy baby could be due to genetic composition, hormonal changes in the mother or any other causes.”
