Panic at international airport over IndiGo technical snag

The police rushed to the airport, but their services were not required, according to Shangumugham ACP.

Thiruvananthapuram: The international airport here experienced tense moments when the pilot of a domestic aircraft with over 150 passengers detected problems with the nose wheel of the plane.

The Air Traffic Controller activated fire-and-rescue services anticipating that the IndiGo flight 6E-933 from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram will have to make an emergency landing.

Eventually, the flight made a normal landing after the pilot rectified the problem. IndiGo issued a statement saying that the pilot in command had observed an ‘anti-skid nose wheel steering glitch,’ which needed a computer reset procedure prescribed by Airbus.

The airlines said: “At no point emergency landing was declared by the pilot and the aircraft made a normal landing. This is a routine procedure to rectify the glitch.”

The police rushed to the airport, but their services were not required, according to Shangumugham ACP. The flight scheduled to land at 4.09 pm touched down at 4.18 pm, Airport director George G. Tharakan said, “keeping fire-and-rescue personnel and ambulance services on standby in such a situation is part of standard procedure.”

The flight after a thorough check later left on its onward journey to Bengaluru-Kolkata, airlines sources said.
