Nayeem used to collect tax from businessmen and realtors
Hyderabad: Slain gangster Nayeem allegedly used to collect a “tax” from businessmen and realtors in Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy, Mahabubnagar and Hyderabad outskirts.
The renegade Naxal had several criminals and ex-Maoists working under him to collect this monthly tax from the victims each month. Rice millers, petrol bunk owners, traders, businessmen, and realtors used to pay him out of fear. It had become a regular income running into crores.
Nayeem also used to penalise people who did not pay the money on time, sources revealed. According to sources, more than 200 people, including assassins, ex-Maoists, drivers, watchmen, maids and informers used to work for Nayeemuddin for a monthly salary. “His hafta was levied on every land deal and business turnover in these districts,” said a source. Officials say that Nayeem’s illegal activities were well planned and recorded like a parallel government.
