Kochi: The High Court on Wednesday castigated the state government on the encroachments in Munnar and observed that it was betraying the people by providing water and electricity to the buildings in the encroached lands.A bench headed by the Chief Justice was considering a contempt of court petition filed by an environment protection committee stating that putting electric poles was in violation of the court order banning all construction activities in places identified as encroached land.
The government action amounts to aiding the encroachments, the court said and added that this was cheating the people.
The government facilitates the power and water connection even as it creates an impression that it is against encroachments. This is double standard, the bench observed
