Kerala high court notice on ban on education bandh

A division bench comprising the Chief Justice also asked the state govt to offer explanation regarding the education \'bandh\' recently held in Kollam.

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has issued notices to the state government and others on a public interest litigation filed by the Forum of CBSE and ICSE Schools in Kollam seeking to ban education 'bandhs' and class boycott organised by the students organisations.

A division bench comprising the Chief Justice also asked the state government to offer explanation regarding the education 'bandh' recently held in Kollam. The other respondents in the case include students organisations such as SFI, KSU, ABVP and AISF. The petition says the education bandhs disrupt the functioning of schools and colleges.

The petitioner also said that though there are no followers for the student organisatios in ICSE/CBSE schools, the student leaders coming from other schools paralyse the functioning of these schools using force. After the school reopening, for silly reasons, three education bandhs have been organised. Though petitions were submitted to the government, the DPI and the DGP in this regard, no action was taken.

The petition said when students who are keen on studying oppose the strike, law and order issues arise forcing the head of the institution to intervene to avert untoward incidents.

The government must be directed to ban politics on campuses, the petitioner said.
