Hyderabad: Only pure water will enter

A senior GHMC official said roadside injection borewells will pass through rainwater harvesting pits.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has developed a special mechanism to collect pure rainwater from water clogged roads. Corporation officials noticed that although injection borewells were constructed in flood-prone areas, they mostly ended up collecting water mixed with petroleum discharge and overflowing sewer water.

Officials claimed that to prevent sending contaminated water to the ground, injection borewells will be designed to collect all oil deposits on top and all solid deposits at the bottom. This mechanism will best suit the city’s requirements, they said.

A senior GHMC official said roadside injection borewells will pass through rainwater harvesting pits.

Two 75-mm PVC pipes — one installed in the centre and one constructed perpendicular to it in the collection chamber — will facilitate separation of oil and solid deposits from water. This mechanism will enable pure rainwater to enter the ground through the injection borewells. This will be implemented at all 160 flood-prone locations identified thus far.
