Bescom to identify buildings close to power lines
Bengaluru: Following recent incidents of electrocutions, the Bescom is planning to conduct a recce to identify buildings that have come up in close proximity to high tension power lines.
A senior Bescom officer said, “Recently we found that at few places, houses were constructed right under the power lines, which is illegal and dangerous. This cannot be allowed and we do not know who gave them permission. If these houses were built after the power lines are drawn, then it is not allowed.”
“We have asked all the officers from every zone in the city to check if there are structures coming under the power lines and prepare a report. We will discuss the issue with the other civic bodies and take suitable action,” the officer added.
The officer also mentioned that while drawing power lines we ensure that they are passing at a certain distance from existing buildings. But when a power line is already existing and a structure comes up below it, then it is illegal and dangerous.
Another officer from Bescom said first they will conduct a recee and then take decision.
