Anantapur: Cops tighten vigil on matka organisers

SP Satya Esubabu, soon after taking charge, is concentrating on matka and gambling activities in Anantapur district.

Anantapur: In the wake of the alarming rise of matka gambling with many parts of Anantapur district becoming trading centres to liaison with Bellary and Mumbai headquarters, the police have initiated serious action against matka organisers.

Tadipathri and Guntakal in the Rayalaseema region have been key centres for matka companies in the past two decades. Recently, a matka organiser and his close aides attacked a police team in Kadapa and damaged a police jeep at Tadipathri town.

SP Satya Esubabu, soon after taking charge, is concentrating on matka and gambling activities in Anantapur district. Already gambling activities have stopped following a sudden raid on Anantapur officers club for the first time. SP has directed all police stations to keep away from matka and gambling activities.

On Wednesday, one of the kingpins of the matka company Chikkepalli Khadar Bhasha of Chinna Bazar in Tadipathri was arrested. A minor boy was also detained along with three more of his close aides for organising matka in Tadipathri town. Khadar Bhasha’s close aides Singavaram Shshavali, Asif and Noor Mohammd were arrested.

The minor boy will be produced at a juvenile court, the SP said. Five constables from Tadipathri police stations were suspended because they were hand in glove with matka organisers.and alerted them abut police raids. As part of the series of action taken against matka organisers, the police nabbed Bukkapuram Shivaprasad a couple of days ago.

The organiser revealed his close nexus with a head constable Nagendrudu and constables Nagaraju, SV Rama, Mohan Babu and Prathap Naik. The cops were using separate phone numbers to speak with the organisers. SP Mr.Satya Esubabu said the head constable and four constables were suspended after he obtained call data of their phones.
