Chennai: BJP national secretary H. Raja has called upon the State government to rethink its policy of procuring eggs for the government nutritious meal scheme, in the wake of scam in procurement, and said the eggs could be procured directly from poultries.
The BJP leader claimed the contractor made huge profits by supplying egg at a price of Rs. 4.34 after procuring it for Rs. 1.75 from poultries. “This is unacceptable. The government should consider procuring eggs for the midday meal programme for children, directly from the poultries,” Mr. Raja said in a tweet on Tuesday.
In another tweet, he took pot shots at the opposition parties demanding the opening of the Mettur reservoir for agricultural operations.
“Every year in June we demand the release of water to facilitate Kuruvai cultivation but do not take up maintenance of the irrigation canals. As a result the released water goes waste into the sea,” he said.
