Chief Justice raps Telangana government for delay in action against school fee hikes

Hyderabad: The Chief Justice of the High Court has questioned the Telangana state government’s delay in action taken on school fee hikes.

He has asked the government not to further delay action and gave two weeks’ time to file its counter in the case. Hyderabad School Parents Association (HSPA) said that they are happy as their petition was finally heard on Tuesday in Hyderabad.

Senior counsel P. Venugopal, representing HSPA requested the court to take on record the additional affidavit filed by the HSPA.

The court granted permission and the additional affidavit with the balance sheets of multiple schools, that expose the rabid profiteering in them, is now a document of official record in the High Court.

According to HSPA, schools with huge profits and crores of rupees in surplus in their bank accounts would no longer be able to hide and will stand exposed in subsequent hearings of the case. The case will next be heard on July 31, 2018.

Members of HSPA said, “We are glad that our petition is finally being heard, even if it is after a gap of nearly two years, and is being given due importance by the Hon’ble High Court. We hope that the Government will act at least now, when the Chief Justice of the High Court is himself questioning the delay in action by the government.

“We also hope that the government will file its counter within the allotted time of two weeks and that the affidavit will have details of substantive actions planned by the government.”
