Telangana government has no contact with Turkey duo
Hyderabad: Telangana government’s ministers or bureaucrats from its Youth Affairs and Sports department haven’t made any efforts to communicate with the worried parents of the two youngsters from Telangana who are in Trabzon, Turkey, to participate in World Schools Championships 2016.
While Union minister of external affairs Sushma Swaraj tweeted that all efforts were being made to bring the stranded 149 students, including two from Telangana, back from Turkey which recently witnessed a failed military coup resulting in deaths of hundreds of people, the Telangana government officials seem unconcerned.
While the government has made no efforts, the coaches of the two youngsters — gymnast Priyanka Sagar (15) and athlete Srikanth Dhanavath (16) — are getting information from their counterparts in Turkey who went with the contingent, and are passing on the information to the parents. Priyanka has been in touch with her family over WhatsApp as well.
When contacted, Priyanka Sagar's father Mr Maheshwar said, “I am flying to New Delhi on Monday where I plan to get in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs officials. Priyanka's coach Dr Puli Ravindra, who is with the Sports Autho-rity of India, has been in touch with me. He said that Priyanka was safe but I will feel relaxed only when I meet her after she arrives.”
Dr Ravindra said, “The Indian contingent will travel on Monday, when the sport meet ends, from Trabzon to Ankara and then to Istanbul. They will reach New Delhi on Tuesday.”
