Karimnagar: As part of the ongoing second phase of Telanganaku Harita Haaram, programme Authorities and mayor of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (KMC) will take up a mega plantation by sowing 2 lakh saplings in different parts of the city on single day, Monday.  Elaborate arrangements have been made for making the attempt a successful.

Additional Chief Secretary in the Chief Minister's Office Smita Sabharwal will take part in the ambitious programme.

Speaking to this newspaper, KMC mayor S. Ravinder Singh said that they were going to create a record of sorts by taking up plantation of two lakh saplings in and around the city on a single day. KMC will set an example to other civic bodies by accomplishing this task, he explained, adding they would be implementing WALTA Act in order to protect the saplings.

KMC Commissioner D. Krishna Bhaskar said that geo-tagging was initiated for areas of plantation. “For this purpose, we have carried out marking and made sure that individual field level officers fill up the database of plants. The KMC’s own compost yard has been used for pitting. It is aimed to put about 100 grams per pit.

“We are going to involve members of self-help groups who would take up door to door visits and convince a woman of a house to plant a tree. We are also planning an initiative to help our citizens connect to the planting by involving them in the process of allowing and nurturing the trees to survive. Special pamphlets were distributed for ensuring correct pitting and watering techniques on the day of planting,” elaborate Mr. Krishna Bhaskar.

As many as 24,000 saplings would be planted in various places belonging to 50 divisions across the city, while 21,000 saplings will be sown on the premises of different temples.
