Girl given blood, loses sight in Adilabad
Adilabad: A 15-year-old girl has lost sight in her right eye after undergoing blood transfusion at RIMS, Adilabad, it was stated on Sunday.
Doctors said they had given blood to Roja, 15, of Patnapur in Jainoor mandal, as she was anemic and her haemoglobin count was just 5.6 when she was admitted to the hospital on July 8 for vomiting and loose motions. She was discharged on July13.
She then developed complications in her right eye, and her vision started blurring. She came back and complained to the doctors at RIMS on Saturday. The doctors who checked her eye confirmed that she had lost sight in her right eye.
Doctors said that there was a possibility of patients suffering kidneys, eye, and liver infections following blood transfusion. The doctors referred Roja to the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital at Hyderabad for further treatment.
Her family staged a protest alleging negligence by doctors. Doubts were cast on the quality of blood transfused to her.
