Siddaramaiah popularised' suicides, says Yeddyurappa
Bengaluru: Launching a blistering attack on Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah and the Congress government in the state, BJP state unit president, B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday described the incumbent government and Cabinet ministers as nothing but a ‘suicide promoting squad.’
Leaders including Mr Yeddyurappa and several others slammed Mr Siddaramaiah saying the state had witnessed several hundred farmers committing suicide in the last three years. Now even police officers are not safe from the ‘marauding regime’ of the Congress party, they said.
Speaking at the launch of the party’s Chaitanya Rally here, Mr Yeddyurappa said, “In the last three years, the Congress government in the state led by Mr Siddaramaiah had done nothing but prompt people in the state to commit suicide.”
He quipped that be it farmers or police officers, none are spared by the Siddaramaiah government. “Thousands of farmers have committed suicide, while the number of police officers committing suicide too is on the rise, this is the most unfortunate phase ever witnessed by people in the state in the last 60 years,” he said.
He felt the Siddaramaiah government ideally should have worked to uplift the morale of people (Aatmasammana) but instead it was busy pushing people to the brink of suicide (Aatmahatya). “
Demanding a CBI probe into the suicide of DySP M.K. Ganapati, Mr Yeddurappa asserted that the BJP won’t dilute its stand in seeking justice for the bereaved family of the police officer.
CM defends TBJ view on continuing with session
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday defended his Cabinet colleague T.B. jayachandra’s views on discontinuing the ongoing Assembly session.
Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, the CM said: “The Business advisory committee has advised us to hold the Assembly session till July 30. If the JD(S) and BJP co-operate, we are ready to continue with the Assembly proceedings. If they are not participating, and are only interested in escapism, what is the point in continuing (with the session). Do you expect us to waste public money? Mr Jayachandra might have meant that. The session in fact is meant to discuss demands of departments, take approvals and discuss problems of the State. But they (opposition) have no interest in it. They only seem to be interested in politics for publicity sake,” he said.
To a question on the allegation made by Opposition leader Mr K.S. Eswarappa that he was taking the agitation by the opposition parties very lightly, he said, “Their agitation itself is of such a nature.”
On the allegation by former chief minister Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy that Mr K.J. George had indulged in ‘suitcase politics,’ he said, “Kumaraswamy is known for hit and run statements. He makes allegations, leaves it at that and moves on.”
