HMRL suspends its operations, commuters faced inconvenience

Passengers were informed that due to some disturbance, all operations in all three lines of Hyd Metro stand suspended till further notice

Hyderabad: Following the anti-Agnipath protests in the city, the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) suspended services on its three corridors for several hours on Friday.

Announcing the measure, L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited (L&TMRHL) in an official statement said, "Passengers are informed that due to some disturbance in the city, all operations in all three lines of Hyderabad Metro Rail stand suspended till further notice. Passengers are advised to take care and make alternativee arrangements."

This sudden move caused the commuters much inconvenience. “If the protests are happening on the JBS-MGBS corridors, Mero Rail operations should not be suspended in all three corridors,” a commuter said.

Shailesh, a Metro Rail commuter, said that the service should maintain a WhatsApp number for better communication. “I planned my journey a day in advance after booking a ticket online,” he said. The service was suspended on Friday. “The million dollar question is will Metro Rail make a refund.”

Neelima, another commuter, said that with the sudden suspension of operations, cab operators had a field day and the fares surged 250 per cent.

“We don't even have the option to avail of cheaper public transport like MMTS. With the hike, the RTC would be a bad choice considering the journey time and unhygienic conditions," she added.

HMRL managing director N.V.S. Reddy later said that the Metro Rail operations would begin from 6. 35 pm.
