Thiruma criticises PM for dual leadership in AIADMK

Mr. Edappadi K Palaniwami’s claim that he discussed State issues when he met the Prime Minister lacked credibility.

Chennai: Launching a broadside against the Prime Minister Narenda Modi seeking to influence the working of the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Thol Thirumavalavan, leader of the Dalit party, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), on Monday accused him of leading the “dual leadership” in the AIADMK.

“It is under the guidance of the Central government that a dual leadership (EPS-OPS dispensation) prevails in the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. Mr. Narendra Modi himself is presiding over the affairs of the AIADMK and guiding it. The AIADMK government and the party should function independently and AIADMK cadres should fight to foil this attempt,”

Mr Thirumavalavan said speaking to the media here. Interacting with reporters at the airport before the two VCK MPs’ led by him left for New Delhi to take oath as members of the new Lok Sabha, Mr. Thirumavalavan said the Chief Minister,

Mr. Edappadi K Palaniwami’s claim that he discussed State issues when he met the Prime Minister lacked credibility. There were reports that they mainly discussed party matters and hence the Chief Minister’s claim “is an
eye-wash”, said the Dalit leader who took pride in the fact that VCK for the first time has two MPs’ in the Lok Sabha.

Thanking the DMK and other allies for making this victory possible in the recent elections, Mr. Thirumavalavan said they would not only take up their constituency issues, but also all other issues concerning the State and its people including scrapping of ‘NEET’, disallowing
hydro-carbon explorations in the Cauvery delta and opposing the draft new Education policy, besides
the nuclear fuel reprocessing facility proposed at Kudankulam.

The Education policy, he alleged was an attempt to impose Hindi and Sanskrit, besides “saffronising”
education.

The VCK will oppose imposing of a uniform ‘Sanatana culture’ by the Centre, he added.

On BJP leader and former Union minister, Ponn Radhakrishnan suggesting that DMK and Congress MPs’ from Tamil Nadu “sell off their properties” for the sake of writing off farmers’ loans, the Dalit leader said it only showed the BJP’s
“frustration” after not being able to win any seat in Tamil Nadu in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
