Karnataka govt transfers 17 IPS officers, Alok Kumar is city commissioner

Alok Kumar whose name figured prominently in the interim report submitted by the CID regarding the lottery scam was suspended in 2015.

BENGALURU: In a major shake-up in the police department, the state government transferred 17 IPS rank officials, including the senior-most T Suneel Kumar. Suneel Kumar who was city police commissioner since August 2017, has been replaced by Alok Kumar who has been promoted to the ADGP rank. Suneel Kumar will be ADGP, Recruitment.

The state government had brought Alok Kumar to the city in 2018 from Belagavi where he was IGP, Northern Range. He was posted as IG and Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) on September 15, 2018, as he was known as a strict cop who dealt with criminals with an iron hand.

Alok Kumar whose name figured prominently in the interim report submitted by the CID regarding the lottery scam was suspended in 2015. He was then Additional Commissioner of Police (West), Bengaluru. Five months later, he was reinstated into service and took charge as IGP, Training, Bengaluru in October 2015..

Similarly, Bijay Kumar Singh has been transferred and posted as IG and Secretary to Home Department (PCAS). Umesh Kumar will replace him in his previous posting of into the service and took charge as IGP, Training, Bengaluru in October 2015. (West). However, Singh will continue to head the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the murder of senior journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh. Ravi Channavar, DCP, Bengaluru (West) has been made SP, CID, Bengaluru. The position was previously vacant. B. Ramesh who previously held the post of SP, STF and Vigilance, BDA, Bengaluru, will replace Channannavar as DCP (West).

Likewise, Amrit Paul, IGP, Administration, has been posted as IGP, Eastern Range, Davangere as Soumendu Mukherjee who held this post is IGP, Internal Security Division, Bengaluru. Raghavendra Suhasa, IG, Northern Range, Belagavi, has been made IG, Southern Range, Mysuru. Amit Singh, SP, Mysuru district is Commandant, Home Guards and Civil Defence Academy, Bengaluru.

Dr. Ram Nivas Sepat, SP, Bengaluru Rural is now SP, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Bengaluru, while MN Anucheth, DCP (Administration) is SP, Railways as Dr. Bheema Shankar S. Guled who held this post has become DCP, North-East as Kala Krishnaswamy has become Director, Forensic Science Laboratory, Bengaluru.

Other transfers: CB Ryshyanth is mre SP, Mysuru district, Mohammad Sujeetha becomes SP, Kolar Gold Field, TP Shivakumar is SP, Bengaluru Rural and N. Vishnuvardhana is DCP (Administration).
