IIT-Hyderabad develops way to improve solar cells

The process, which was published in peer reviewed journal Solar Energy.

Hyderabad: The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, has developed a process to improving the performance of third generation solar cells by working with Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC).

The process, which was published in peer reviewed journal Solar Energy, has shown that the incorporation of magnetic nano particles in the anode can enhance the efficiences of light-to-power conversion.

The process, which is a cost effective measure, has quite a few environmental benefits as it could outdo mature silicon-based solar cells, according to the researchers.

Dr Jammalamadaka Suryanarayana, who headed the research, said, “We are seeing third generation of cells for solar technology with significantly lower costs and also being environmentally friendly. We need improvements to translate into practical products.”
