Dr G Parameshwar wades into car pooling app row

This move comes weeks after a report by a high-level committee stating that bike taxis were not viable.

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwar might have just waded into controversy by endorsing 'Quick Ride', a bike sharing and carpooling app. The move goes against the stand taken by the state government, which had threatened to cancel the licence of cab aggregator, Ola, for launching a similar bike sharing service a few months ago.

Ola, Taxiforsure and Uber Drivers and Owners Association President Tanveer Pasha in a letter to Deputy Chief Minister Minister Parameshwar said that the government should not recognise and support car and bike pooling ventures. This move comes weeks after a report by a high-level committee stating that bike taxis were not viable.

Mr Pasha said, “This move by our Deputy Chief Minister is not acceptable. He knows that taxi drivers are opposed to the two services. Also, Dr Parameshwar should remember that the Transport Department had not given permission for Ola to run bike-taxis, which is illegal.”
