Hyderabad: Repair work on the Ammuguda road has been started at last by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) after the cloud of confusion cleared with the intervention of residents.
Residents have been requesting officials from the related departments — South Central Railway (SCR), Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) and the GHMC — to take up the repair work. There was no response for long.
Eventually, when they were persistent in requesting SCR, the latter responded stating that the road did not fall in its jurisdiction.
SCR, in a letter, mentioned the rule which stated: “It is unambiguously mentioned in Para 1813-E that railways are required to maintain the Railways Bridge Structure (excluding roadway) whereas the state government has to maintain the complete approaches, road way of ROB/RUB (road overbridge/road underbridge) from one side to the other, lighting etc.”
Eventually, the GHMC took up the task and started doing patch work to the repaired road, which is riddled with potholes. The officials said that they were in a state of ‘confusion’ and hence the delay. A GHMC official added, “Earlier, there was a ‘dispute’ with the railways when we took up work on the land that belongs to them, so there was confusion. That area partly falls under SCB. We took up the work as public are suffering because of the bad roads.”
Residents said that they were thankful to the GHMC as they had finally repaired the road and made it convenient.
