8 killed, 4 hurt in multiple mishaps in Central TN

Two-wheelers get more vulnerable on highways.

Karur: At least eight persons including a couple were killed and four others injured in four different road accidents in Karur and Nagapattinam districts since Sunday.

Police said two persons including a three-year-old boy were killed on the spot and four others injured when a car in which they traveling capsized on the road at Pavithiram village on the Karur-Coimbatore national highway near Karur in the wee hours of Monday.

The occupants of the car, hailing from Vellakovil in Tirupur district were on their way home after attending a family function at Tiruchy when the mishap occurred. The dead included Parameswari and 3-year-old Antony. The injured were admitted to a private hospital at Coimbatore, police said.

In the second accident, a 32-year-old private company employee Sankar was fatally run over by a speeding minibus, along with his two-wheeler, at suburb Vengamed near Karur.

In the Third accident, a couple was killed when a motorcycle they were riding collided head-on with a speeding car at Thirumeni village near Kulithalai in Karur district on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Suseendran, 46, and his wife Suganya, 39, of Keelapatti village. They were on their way home after visiting their second daughter who is studying in 9th standard in a residential school at Karur, when the mishap occurred.

In the fourth accident, three persons were fatally run over along with their two-wheeler they rode by a speeding omnibus proceeding to Karaikal from Sirkazhi at Ozukaimangalam village in Nagapattinam district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Adityan,22, Marimuthu, 19, and Athish, 18, of Anaikoil village. Porayar police arrested the bus driver Kannan of Vaaimedu and are investigating.
