Hyderabad: Voters names go missing

Representations were given to the elected representatives regarding the same.

Hyderabad: Several residents complained that their names were missing from their voters list, when they went to check during a two-day camp to enrol voters. The camp, conducted by the election cell of the SCB, ended on Sunday.

The culprit appears to be the changed addresses in the SCB area, which were not updated in the voters lists. Mr Krishna Kumar, who has been staying in Vasavinagar Colony for 22 years, complained, “We enrolled in the voters list the last time. Now, I cannot find my name.”

He said many other residents could not find their names. “I voted in the 2014 elections. Now they are saying that I need to enrol again to vote, like a fresh voter,” Mr Krishna Kumar said.

Mr T. Sathish Gupta said that the names of 90 per cent of the colony residents were missing from the list and the residents are not even aware of that. Representations were given to the elected representatives regarding the same.

The residents were told that the names were missing due to a technical pro-blem. SCB officials could not be contacted regarding the missing names. “Initially, enrolment took place door to door. As the electoral list had the old addresses, the staff could not identify the voters’ residences. New address boards have been given in the cantonment,” said Mr Gupta.

This could have led to the enumerators cancelling the names of voters. “A particular venue was fixed for the purpose and the message was passed on to the residents to enrol via WhatsApp groups,” Mr Gupta said.
