Karnataka: Train catches fire, staff delink engine, save lives
Bengaluru: An accidental, but minor fire in the engine of Bengaluru-bound Hubballi-Bengaluru passenger train created panic among passengers near Doddabale railway station in Nelamangala taluk on Friday night.
No casualties were reported as the railway staff on board showed the presence of mind and quickly detached the engine from the bogies to avoid fire from spreading.
The fire was spotted in the engine around 7 pm when the train was a few kilometres away from the Doddabele railway station. As soon as the fire was noticed, the train was halted and the staff detached the engine from the bogies and alerted the fire officials. Within minutes, Nelamangala fire officials reached the spot and doused the fire.
Excessive heating in some parts of the engine is said to be the cause of fire.The train reached Bengaluru after another engine was attached to it.
