Date expired food in University of Hyderabad eateries
Hyderabad: A surprise inspection conducted by University of Hyderabad officials and members of the Students’ Union in the eateries and general stores on the campus found over four cartons of expired food items like packet chips, noodles, soft drink bottles and curd containers.
A popular eatery in the north campus was found to have stored leftover rice and noodles in the fridge and served the same for three or four days.
The inspection was initiated by the Students’ Union after its general secretary Suman Damera received complaints regarding the quality of food. He said, “A lot of students were telling me about the poor quality of wheat used to make dishes and since today a was Saturday, the eateries did not expect an inspection. The four shops with outdated items have been sealed with the registrar’s advice. Strict action is to be taken against them and we expect students to raise concerns regarding any eatery on campus.”
A meeting has been fixed on Monday with the shopkeepers and university officials to decide on the next action.
“Students eat outside of their mess when they want a change of taste but they get even worse food,” said a student.
