Rename Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Park park, says Abid Rasool Khan
Hyderabad: State Minorities Commission chairman Abid Rasool Khan has urged Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to rename the Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Park, popularly known as KBR Park, after Prince Mukarram Jah, the grandson of Nizam VII. This is, as the government took over 300 acres of surplus ULC land for the national park and did not give benefit to him in the past.
Mr Khan and other members of the commission submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Mohd. Mahmood Ali on Friday. Earlier, Princess Esra too had met the Chief Minister and made a similar request. Mir Barkat Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VIII, formally known as Mukarram Jah, became the titular Nizam of Hyderabad upon the death of his grandfather Mir Osman Ali Khan, Nizam VII in 1967.
The commission alleged that the property of Prince Mukarram Jah was acquired in a discriminatory manner. “While his property was acquired, hundreds and thousands of other properties also affected by ULC though identified as surplus and put up for acquisition, were later released to the owners. As the matter stands thus, ULC has been repealed,” Mr Khan explained.
He said lands of MPs and other powerful politicians in the vicinity of KBR Park were de-notified and freed from ULC. “The commission has appealed to the Chief Minister to at least compensate the loss of huge property which had been taken over for public use by naming the park after Prince Mukarram Jah. The commission also appealed to the Chief Minister to pass orders this Ramzan itself,” Mr Khan said.
