Multi-system operators blame TVs in Hyderabad

A private Telugu TV channel wants Rs 25 for all its channels.

Hyderabad: Multi-system operators blame the broadcasters to deflect the charges of monopoly over the trade.

An MSO from the city told this newspaper, “Most broadcasters with a popular paid channel will have two to five auxiliary channels on news, movies and music which have little demand. We need only the popular channel but the broadcasters impose all the channels on us.”

He said the broadcaster of a Telugu channel was demanding Rs 25 per connection for all its channels. “If we ask for one channel, they ask Rs 23. Therefore we have to take all the channels,” he said.

Cable Operators’ Wel-fare Association leader S. Jagadeeswar Rao said the government should ban ads on paid channels. “If the channels are being paid for by MSOs, why should they broadcast ads? We are going to raise this issue,” he said.
