West Godavari detects first black fungus case

The district collector said the fungus initially reaches the nose, eyes and face and the patient will suffer from pain

Kakinada: West Godavari district had registered one black fungus case on Monday, said district collector Kartikeya Misra and directed medical officials to pay attention to it.

He conducted a meeting with the officials and said the fungus initially reaches the nose, eyes and face and the patient will suffer from pain. He advised doctors to use only sterilised water while providing oxygen to Covid-19 patients and to change water from patient to patient. He asked Covid-19 patients who are in diabetic to recognise symptoms of black fungus, and directed hospital staff to create awareness about black fungus symptoms among patients. He said after being discharged, the patient, if noticed any symptoms, should contact medical officials immediately.

Speaking about oxygen, Misra said there was no shortage of oxygen in West Godavari district and some of the cylinders were kept as buffer stock. He said village and ward secretaries and volunteers should gather the details of the persons who should get a second dose of vaccine and they should be given it in the coming two days. He warned if private hospitals were not allotting 50 percent of beds to Arogyasri patients, such hospitals will be closed by Wednesday evening.
