KAKINADA: Some private schools have come forward to render help to their students and their parents, if they are infected with Covid-19. The institutions are providing medicines, toolkits and are even arranging oxygen beds. In case students come from BPL families, the schools are bearing the medical expenses also.
The Private School Management Association (PSMA) has given a call to its members to join in the noble endeavour and many schools have come forward for the purpose.
“We felt it is our responsibility to render medical help to students, parents and staff. Many private school managements have agreed to this proposal and are working on the concept’’ said PSMA East Godavari district president M. Srivijay.
He said that he has so far helped 39 students or their parents by rendering medical facilities. He said that there is a difficulty in getting oxygen beds and ventilator facilities. However, he has been making use of his personal contacts with hospitals, MLAs and other political leaders and garnering their support. He also said that some school correspondents are also struggling for their livelihood due to the lockdown because of non-collection of fees and have tested positive. The Association is also helping such correspondents.
A private school correspondent Y. Suresh said that he had contacted doctors, including pulmonologists, seeking medical help. Students or their parents who are infected are being sent to those doctors for treatment. Around 60 persons have benefited because of those doctors, who have risen to the occasion, he said.
Suresh said that he is providing medical kits and herbal powders, priced at Rs. 250, to patients and staff members. He said that he is making use of his contacts with laboratories for CT scan.
Another correspondent T.S.V. Narayana said that he was keeping track of those with Covid cases and sending food packets and medicines to them.
M. Sujnan Kumar, correspondent of another school, said that he was counseling families of patients, providing medical help and facilities.
Meanwhile, former MLC, N. Seshareddy, said that he had ordered nearly 80 oxygen concentrators, which could be used even by the general public.
