Kochi: The Ernakulam Excise Special Squad on Friday arrested a 27-year old person for arranging bachelor drug parties in the district and seized 130 nitrazepam tablets from his possession.
The arrested was identified as Ajas, 27, of Edathala near Aluva.
The Top Narcotic Secret Group formed by the Excise Special Squad had received a tip-off regarding the person and were on alert. According to officials, the accused used to conduct the parties in remote places with the help of his associates hailing from areas like Aluva, Pookkattupadi, Kodukkuth Mala and Vazhakkulam.
He also created a secret group named ‘Nithysanthiyude Dadakkal’ to make the deals.
“He claimed that taking tablets along with liquor is equal to meditation as it makes the mind calm and consuming the liquor alone makes the situation very violent,” an official said.
“He has not yet revealed the source of the drug or the names of his associates other than giving some code names of them.” The officials said that they suspect the accused has developed some mental problems due to excessive use of the drugs.
The Excise, however, has started investigation at Kodukkuth Mala and Vazhakkulam for the remaining suspects.
An Excise team led by Special Squad Inspector B. Suresh and P. Sreeraj along with other officers made the arrest. The accused was later produced before a court.
